Superintendent's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well. As we embark on the spring season, we wanted to take a moment to emphasize the importance of student attendance and shed some light on how schools are funded in the State of California.

Importance of Student Attendance:

At San Ardo Elementary School, we believe that regular attendance is vital for your child's academic success and overall well-being. Every day counts in your child's educational journey, as each lesson builds upon the last. When students are absent, they miss out on valuable instructional time, which can impact their understanding of the material and their ability to keep up with their peers.

Consistent attendance also fosters a sense of routine and responsibility in students, preparing them for future academic and professional endeavors. Additionally, being present in school allows students to participate in enriching activities, interact with their peers, and develop important social skills.

School Funding in California:

It's essential for parents to understand how schools are funded to appreciate the significance of student attendance. In California, public schools receive funding primarily based on Average Daily Attendance (ADA). This means that the state allocates funds to schools based on the number of students who are present and engaged in learning each day.

When students are absent, whether it's due to illness, appointments, or other reasons, it directly affects the school's funding. Decreased attendance can lead to reduced resources for essential programs, staffing, and extracurricular activities that enhance the educational experience for all students.

What You Can Do:

As parents and guardians, you play a crucial role in supporting your child's attendance and, by extension, our school's funding. Here are a few ways you can help:

  1. Prioritize Attendance: Make attendance a priority for your child, emphasizing the importance of being present and on time every school day.

  2. Communicate Absences: If your child must miss school, please notify the school office as soon as possible and provide a valid reason for the absence.

  3. Encourage Healthy Habits: Help your child maintain good health by promoting regular sleep schedules, nutritious meals, and preventative healthcare practices.

  4. Stay Engaged: Stay informed about school events, activities, and academic progress, and encourage active participation in school life.

Together, we can ensure that every student at San Ardo Elementary receives the quality education they deserve. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education.

Warm regards,

Dr. Catherine Reimer
