Readers

I am beyond excited to share some fantastic news! These hardworking kindergarten readers have been putting in so much effort learning and remembering their Rainbow Words, and all that hard work has paid off!

These amazing students have earned a special reward — they will be joining the rest of the school on the AR Field Trip!

To celebrate their reading success, they will be heading to Mr. Putter's Mini Golf for a fun-filled day of putting, playing, and making wonderful memories together.

I am so proud of these incredible readers and can’t wait to see them enjoy this well-deserved celebration!

Be a Plant Builder!

Planting Seeds
Planting Seeds

In first and second grade, students are becoming little scientists and gardeners!

They’re exploring how plants live, learning about each plant part and its special job.

They’re also discovering how to care for plants, planting their own seeds, and watching them grow day by day like nature detectives. It’s a hands-on adventure where they nurture life and witness the magic of nature!

ELA Silent Debate

This month, our class began Part One of a Silent Debate unit focusing on the question: "Are video games good or bad for your brain?"

What We're Doing:

  • Introducing students to debate skills (claims, evidence, counterarguments).

  • Engaging in small-group discussion about the benefits and drawbacks of video games.

  • Learning how to structure an argument before we move on to deeper research and writing activities.

Why It Matters:

  • Students practice critical thinking, communication, and respectful debate skills.

  • This foundation prepares them for a final argumentative essay coming soon.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue exploring this topic!

Lots happening in the literacy classes--and it is different for each class, depending on student strengths and needs.

Classes might be working on

vowel patterns: some vowels work together to represent a sound, sometimes vowels "don't follow the rules" and sound differently in words

sight words: recognizing words that occur commonly in reading

syllabication: dividing words into syllables in order to read them

vocabulary building: finding patterns in words, recognizing word families, finding meaning in context

reading comprehension: reading and answering literal (right there) questions and inference (need support from the text) questions

So, depending on the needs of each student in a literacy group, different reading activities are happening!

Please feel free to stop by, see what we are doing, and borrow a book! Thank you!

Superintendent's Message

Dear San Ardo Families and Community Members,

As we enter the month of March, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools. The second half of the school year is in full swing, and we are excited about the many learning opportunities, events, and initiatives happening throughout our district.

Celebrating Student Success
Our students continue to demonstrate excellence in the classroom and beyond. Congratulations to those who participated in our recent basketball competitions and Stage Craft productions. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication. A special thank you to our teachers and parents for their ongoing support in helping our students achieve their best.

Upcoming Events
We have several exciting events lined up this month:

  • March 3: Read Across America Day – A celebration of literacy and the joy of reading. We will celebrate with Volunteers reading to students, fun activities, and a delicious lunch from San Ardo Cafe!

  • March 10-14: Parent-Teacher Conferences – A great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress. Sign-ups are available from the classroom teachers.

  • March 10: Community meeting with Supervisor Lopez. Bring your concerns and questions.

  • April 14: Spring Break Begins – Schools will be closed from April 14 through April 21. Classes resume on April 22.

Focus on Attendance
Regular attendance is essential for student success. Please ensure that your child is attending school on time every day. If your child needs to miss school due to illness or other reasons, please notify the school office as soon as possible.

Spring Testing
State assessments will take place in May. These tests provide valuable information on student progress and help guide our instructional practices. We encourage students to get plenty of rest and eat a healthy breakfast on testing days.

Community Involvement
We are grateful for our strong community partnerships and the San Ardo Parent Committee. If you are interested in volunteering or supporting our schools in any way, please contact our office. Your involvement makes a difference!

Thank you for being an integral part of the San Ardo Union Elementary School District family. We appreciate your continued collaboration and commitment to our students' success.

Warm regards,

Catherine Reimer, Ed.D.
