February has been an exciting month filled with learning, creativity, and fun in our kindergarten class. Here are some of the highlights and events we celebrated together:

Celebrating the Hundredth Day of School: We celebrated a significant milestone this month, the hundredth day of school! It was a joyous occasion where our little learners marked this special day in various engaging activities. Some of our students came dressed as 100-year-olds, bringing laughter and smiles to our classroom. We also had a blast creating Fruit Loop cereal necklaces, stringing together 100 pieces of this colorful cereal. It was a wonderful way for our students to practice counting while having fun!

First Tee Golf Fridays: Every Friday, our students have been enjoying First Tee Golf sessions. These sessions not only introduce them to the fundamentals of golf but also teach them important values like sportsmanship, honesty, and respect. It's been heartwarming to see our kindergarteners enthusiastically engaging in this activity and developing their coordination skills along the way.

As always, we encourage you to engage with your child about their experiences in class and ask them about their favorite moments from these activities. Your involvement and support play a crucial role in their learning journey.

Iris

Meet Iris Martinez, she is the Character Counts Award winner demonstrating Trustworthiness in her actions. This kind student is a joy to have in class! She is always willing to help others, tries her best in all subject areas, and can be counted on to be on task at all times.

Iris's handwriting skills and compound sentence formation has recently grown into full pages of beautifully written stories. I love being Iris's teacher and enjoy watching her grow academically and social-emotionally.

In March we will focus on the characteristic trait of Fairness.

Dear Parents,

Students will be practicing to prepare for state testing. We will continue on the second round of ICAs for the school year. Make sure that your child has a good night sleep every day and breakfast either at home or at school. Continue having your child read 15 minutes daily at home. Also its important that you have them practice their multiplication facts.

Thank You,

CATHERINE REIMER, ED.D.

Superintendent's Message

Dear San Ardo School Parents and Guardians,

I trust this message finds you well as we welcome the spring season and adjust to daylight savings time!

I'm reaching out to shed light on some essential yet often overlooked aspects of my role within the San Ardo School District, which are crucial to our collective success. In the accompanying photograph, you'll find me alongside Dr. Deneen Guss (Monterey County Superintendent of Schools), Senator John Laird (California State Senator for District 17), and Board President Kaeda Barrios. This picture was taken following a community event featuring Senator Laird's informative presentation.

Frequently, my responsibilities extend beyond the school campus, involving meetings at the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) with Dr. Guss. As the sole representative for our small district, I participate in various meetings such as the superintendents council, LCAP updates, student safety, homeless student services, instructional leadership, business services, and more. While I don't attend every meeting due to time constraints, each of these functions is crucial to our school's success. Unlike larger districts with dedicated personnel for each role, we manage with a more streamlined approach.

I am also honored to serve on the executive board for the Small School Districts' Association (SSDA). SSDA provides legislative advocacy and practical programs to assist small school districts in saving time, money, and achieving impactful results for students. You can find more information about SSDA at https://www.ssda.org/. Advocating for funding and appropriate legislation on behalf of small schools often takes me to Sacramento, given the importance of ensuring representation for the over 600 small school districts in California out of a total of 1,000.

Additionally, my commitment to staying abreast of evolving trends and innovations in education leads me to attend professional conferences. I bring back valuable programs and technologies for the benefit of our school community.

This week, on March 6th, I will be away presenting to the Marines and Native Sons of the Golden West. These groups generously provide toys and Chromebooks for students during Toys-4-Tots. I am grateful for these opportunities to share our story. Subsequently, from March 9th to March 12th, I will be attending the annual SSDA conference in Sacramento, actively contributing to the conference's proceedings as a board member.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Catherine Reimer
