Mrs. Kelley's Kindergarten Class

We can’t believe there are only a few weeks of kindergarten left—what an amazing year it has been! Our class had a wonderful time celebrating during the Day of the Child, filled with fun, laughter, and special activities. The students especially loved making baskets during the basketball game and enjoyed all the hands-on fun.

Students have also been enjoying time with their study buddies from third and fourth grade. They have been reading books together, and some even took AR tests with their buddies, which made the experience extra exciting and meaningful.

We are looking forward to making the most of these final weeks as we continue learning and growing together. Thank you for your continued support!

Proud of Our Year Together!

Hi Parents,

This is our final month of the school year!

This month, we celebrated Fairness Awareness, and Khloe was honored with the award. We are very proud of her for demonstrating such strong character.

Throughout this year, the students have learned so many new things, had lots of fun, and grown in so many ways. They have worked incredibly hard, and I am so proud of all their efforts and achievements. I am confident that we will finish the school year strong!

I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing summer break. I feel truly blessed to have been your child’s teacher. They have taught me so much, and it has been a beautiful and memorable year.

See you next year!

News & Information:

The third and fourth grade class started their skills labs.

"The iINNOVATE Regional Skills Lab is a new career-connected STEM initiative for the Central Coast that empowers all students, regardless of background, to explore regional careers and build confidence early."

Our last skills lab is GPS Monitoring where students will use grid maps and coordinates to simulate how GPS technology guides farm equipment like tractors and drones. They will practice locating precise positions, recording and following directions, and planning efficient routes to complete farm tasks. Through this activity, students will understand how precision agriculture uses GPS to help farmers save time, conserve resources, and care for crops more effectively.

Recycling Research and Writing Project

Dear Families,

Our class has been working on an exciting cross-curricular project that combines science, reading, writing, research, and art. Students are learning about recycling, waste reduction, and how communities can help protect the environment. Throughout this project, students are building important academic skills step by step.

We began with brainstorming. Students explored ideas about recycling, pollution, waste, and environmental responsibility. They discussed what they already knew, what they were curious about, and what topics they wanted to learn more about. This helped them begin thinking like researchers and writers.

Next, students moved into the research stage. We practiced how to read informational texts carefully, find important ideas, and take notes. A major focus has been learning how to paraphrase, which means putting information into their own words instead of copying directly from a source. Students have also practiced how to cite evidence from a text by naming the article or source and using details to support their thinking.

After researching, students began planning and writing their rough drafts. In their writing, students are learning how to state a main idea, support it with evidence from a text or video, and explain their thinking clearly. We are working on organizing ideas, writing in complete sentences, and making sure their writing is thoughtful and informative.

Students will then revise and create their final essays. Their final writing will show what they learned through research and how well they can communicate their ideas using evidence. This stage helps students strengthen both their writing and critical thinking skills.

Along with their essay, students are also creating a visual display art project connected to their topic. These projects may include posters, diagrams, models, labeled visuals, or interactive elements. The goal is for students to teach others about what they learned in a creative and meaningful way.

These projects and final pieces of writing will be available to view during Open House, and we are excited for families to see the hard work students have put into each stage of the process.

Through this project, students are practicing:

brainstorming and generating ideas

researching from informational sources

paraphrasing in their own words

citing evidence from a text or video

writing rough drafts and final essays

creating a visual art display to share learning

We are proud of the effort students are putting into this work. This project has allowed them to grow as readers, writers, researchers, and problem-solvers while learning about ways we can all help care for our environment.

Thank you for your continued support at home.

Warmly,

Ms. Castro

Mr. Pantoja's 7th and 8th Grade Students

Hello San Ardo Community. Currently, in the 7th and 8th grade class, we are working on getting 8th graders prepared for the academic expectations of becoming a high school student while preparing the 7th graders for the rigor of 8th grade.

In class, our students just finished reading a novel named Bless Me Ultima for English Language Arts, where they focused on the different types of conflict in literature while continuing to learn critical thinking and writing skills and how to draw evidence to prove their ideas about the novel.

For Social Studies They are about to conclude a unit on the African Empires and will get started on Early United States History. They also get to know about current events around the world through our daily watching of CNN10 News.

In Science, the students just finished a unit on Electromagnetic waves and their various everyday, medical, and social uses.

For Math, Mrs. Black and I are continuing with preparing the students for state testing where we are focusing on teaching the students math fundamentals that will help them through more advanced math seen in the state tests. We just finished a unit on Ratios and will move on to finding perimeter, volume, and area of geometric shapes.

State tests are coming up! We will start on May 5th-6th and conclude them by Friday 5/15.

Behavioral Expectations

We are now in our 3rd and last trimester of the year.  Behavioral expectations in class and on campus are going to be raised. Students from my class are expected to respect everyone in class, in interventions/arts, and during recesses. Also, all of my students are expected to respect any adults on campus regardless of their position of employment or status as volunteers.  Failure to do so will affect their eligibility to participate in future field trips including the 8th grade promotion trip to Knott's Berry Farm in southern California and the 8th grade promotion ceremony.

NOTE TO PARENTS: Please make sure your students are getting enough sleep.  Sleepy students cannot learn properly and it affects their mood and attitude.

Mrs. Bobbitt's Reading Class

Ms. Bobbitt's Literacy Class

Already May...

This month, as we finish ELPAC testing and move into CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress), we continue to read great stories (K: Guji, Guji; 1-2: Arthur series; 3-4: Redwoods; 5-6: a variety of Aesop's Fables; 7-8: "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury). Reading a story out loud is a shared experience that lasts long after the story is over; the story--and the time it was shared--remains in memory for a lifetime.

Please stop by for any books (or any book recommendation) for summer reading.

Best,

Mrs. Bobbitt

Superintendent's Message

Dear San Ardo Families and Community,

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, May brings both celebration and important milestones for our students and staff.

First, I would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to our incredible teachers in honor of National Teacher Day. Their dedication, creativity, and unwavering commitment to our students make a lasting impact every single day. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding team supporting our school community.

State testing begins May 11, and I encourage all families to support students by ensuring they are well-rested, arrive on time, and feel confident in doing their best. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth and learning.

We are also looking forward to our Open House and Dinner on May 21 at 5:00 p.m. This is always a special evening to come together, celebrate student achievements, and connect as a school community. I hope to see you there.

It has been a true privilege to participate in and support our eighth grade activities, including the upcoming field trip and promotion events. These experiences mark an important transition for our students. As a reminder, participation in promotion activities is based on district expectations, including academic performance, citizenship, attendance, and behavior.

As the school year comes to a close on June 5, we celebrate all that our students have accomplished and the growth they have shown. We are proud of each and every one of them.

Looking ahead, summer school with ProYouth begins June 10, offering continued learning and enrichment opportunities for our students.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making this a successful and meaningful school year.

Warm regards,
Catherine Reimer
